The Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Panhellenic Association of Bioscientists celebrate the World DNA Day with high school students
On the occasion of World DNA Day (April 25) and the anniversary of the discovery of the double helix of DNA (1953) and the completion of the mapping of the human genome (2003), the Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Panhellenic Association of Biosciences High school students are welcomed on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 April 2018 from 9:00 to 13:00, at the Department of Biology.
The students of the 2nd Lyceum will have the opportunity to visit the premises of the Department of Biology of AUTh and to participate in four thematic workshops that will enable them to know the science of Biology in an interactive way, up close and beyond the textbook. . Specifically, the Department of Biology of AUTh will be visited by students from the 1st GEL of Thessaloniki, the 1st GEL of Thermaikos, the 1st GEL of Echedoros Sindos, the GEL of Mikra, the GEL of Kallithea Neochoroudas, the 2nd GEL of Thessaloniki, the 2nd GEL of Ao , the 7th GEL of Kalamaria, the 23rd GEL of Thessaloniki, the GEL of Sochos and the Schools of Fryganioti.
Biological education is essential for the personal and social integration of all people, because it provides us with the tools to understand ourselves and the world in which we live and on which we depend.
The Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Panhellenic Association of Bioscientists, with a sense of responsibility towards society, contribute to the dissemination and consolidation of biological knowledge to tomorrow’s citizens. Biology is a dominant science of the 21st century and its applications have already begun to significantly change the daily life of man. It is essential today that students be provided with the knowledge that will enable them to realize their position and responsibility towards the environment and will help them make decisions in the future about their health, their daily habits, social ethics and their work.
